Monday, May 14

In the middle of the night, I got up and drank a couple of glasses of water, adding to the ones I’d drunk at bedtime. This would counteract the effects of the copious amounts of wine I had drunk all by myself. But heck, I’d started early, having cut out of Sunday dinner, and it had been worth it. My head was a bit wobbly as I went back to bed, but I was confident I would feel better in the morning. I grabbed my pillow to fluff it up and felt a stab of frustration to see the god-damned knife under it.

“What the—” I pulled it out. “Grrrrrrr!” I said to it.

There was absolutely nothing special about it. It was shiny. And it had a nice weight to it. Why did it keep showing up? I snatched it up and stomped into the kitchen, opened the drawer, and mixed it in with all the other knives. Maybe they’d develop a friendship, and it wouldn’t desire my company so damn much.

I stormed back to bed and managed to fall asleep after punching my pillow with a hand I now noticed was tingling.
